They Call Me Mama is a book about the weekly visits of Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo to the boys, in their hideout, under the bridge.
For several years Mrs Osinabjo visited these boys and the unforgettable stories of her interactions are penned down in this well-written memoir. From the original meeting point, lovingly refers to as ‘under’, today, it has been transformed into the Muri Okunola Park.
The idea behind writing the stories is to share the reality of the street boys and men in Lagos state, giving them human facets the surprise of those to whom they are presented as demonised. They are the author’s beloved children and they call her ‘Mama’.
