In Nigerian History from the Earliest Times to the Twenty-First Century, we argued that although Nigeria is richly endowed with both human and natural resources, the country’s success has been constrained over the decades by ethnoreligious conflicts, political instability, corruption and misgovernance by its ruling elites and an almost dysfunctional economy; as a result of which a vast portion of its populace live in abject poverty.

This is a detailed meta-narrative for anyone who genuinely desires to understand the history of Nigeria: the origins of its many ethnic nationalities, their economic activities, the nature and character of their socio-political institutions, patterns of group contact and interactions, encounters with alien forces and the implications of these on their development, the people’s struggles for independence and having achieved this, how they have continued to grapple with the challenges of nation building; the book would certainly find reading points across all classes and generations of Nigerians.
