Modukpè: A Shattered Dream by O.F. Siwoku-Awi (PhD) is the English translation of the original French text, Modukpè. Le rêve brisé, a story written by Adelaïde Fassinou.

It is the story of a young intelligent girl, who gained admission into the university to study law, but she got infatuated and entangled in a fast relationship with her lecturer, Robert, who got her impregnated. This wild love affair truncated her career pursuit to the disappointment of her father, who had put his hope in her that she would bring him fame. While the young lady thought that she could hold down the man’s love with the pregnancy, the man treated her like a prostitute, broke up with her and would not assume responsibility for the care of the baby boy.

The boy, Sèdolo, was raised by his grandmother and mother and he turned out to be the split image of his father, who had secretly left the country and returned to France, where he had a family. He would later return to find Modukpe and reclaim his son.

About the Author

Dr Omotayo Foluke Siwoku-Awi is the author of the English translation of the novel Modukpè: A Shattered Dream. She has been teaching Literature-in-French at Nigerian Institutions of Higher learning for several decades. She is a multidisciplinary researcher with an interest in Comparative literature, Gender studies, Human Psychology, Philosophy of Religion and Pedagogy. Her translation of the novel is an expression of her social activism that girls should be encouraged to have a dream and actualize their dreams. Teachers or lecturers should not take sexual advantage of their students and nepotism should be avoided at all costs. Her major desire is that Nigeria will be great again and the youths will rise up to the task of nation-building.
