Review of the book I Am Yeshua by Chidinma Osuchukwu
When I started the book I really didn’t know what to expect it felt like another spiritual book where an acclaimed Christian pours out what they feel to be the gospel and convince us through the pages and chapters backing each statement with scriptures.
The first thing that intrigued me about this book was the perspective of the writer, a perspective of the Omniscient, a narration as though he was Jesus or like he termed “Yeshua”, I was plagued with the thought that someone would try to adopt a perspective that assumed the person of Jesus when he wasn’t even there at the time he was on earth however it seem rather daring to me and I enjoyed every bit of it.
“However,make no mistake,the information and inspiration contained in this book can shake the foundations of your faith to the very core.” This statement caused a daunting curiosity in my heart, how could a book of a couple of pages make me question 21 years of Christian values and shake the foundations of faith that have guided me all this years, it felt like really tall claims to me and the quest to understand this writer heightened. So trying to draw a distinction between what the world believes and what Yehovah has ordained from the beginning,the writer drew our attention to two great lights: the sun and the moon, the sun is to tell when a day begins and when a year begins, to tell when it’s day or not , or the appointed festivals of Yehovah and the moon is to tell when a new month begins however western civilization has distorted the ‘original plan’ of Yehovah and adopted a haphazard 12 month calendar. This is example is to show that believers some believers do not understand the Bible and misinterpret key principles and doctrines leading to sincere and costly errors. Not only is this example a rather funny one, I would like to ask the writer what calendar he uses so we can be up to the spiritual biblical standard.

When I finally settled into reading this book, I remembered the “Religious” books I have read in the past. I was ready to peruse through mundane content that spoke of the same message in a different way.
I was wrong!
The books within this genre I had read in the past communicated all the principles I was familiar with and the ones I wanted to hear. I just loved the predictability, after all, what’s new with the Jesus Story?
However, with I am Yeshua, for the first time in a long time, I experienced a change in perspective, and I wish I were better prepared for it.
The author did warn me about these “Truths” in the introductory section, but I assumed she merely shared those thoughts to achieve a grand opening.
The fact that the entire book was in the first-person narrative made me feel like I was sitting next to Yeshua as HE expressed his thoughts. He drew me in with lessons from his birth, death, burial, resurrection, and other significant events.
Of course, the writer weaved the narrative brilliantly with connecting stories and biblical references, which I found refreshing.
But beyond the syndetic anecdotes and well-structured sub-sections, Christian readers should be prepared for a shift in mindset that will be triggered by a sincere expression of biblical facts from Yeshua.
Why do we read?
There are varying answers to this question, but I think all avid readers will agree that we read to find solutions.
Still, after reading Osuchukwu’s, I am Yeshua, I continued my Christian walk with more questions than answers.

One of (if not the) the best way of reading the Bible is taking the cultural context in which it was written, and the use of language at the time into consideration. Any deviation from this may lead into diverse misinterpretations. While Chidinma Osuchukwu’s interesting read, I Am Yeshua explored this method of Bible study for better comprehension of the writers’ intended messages, we are faced with different interpretations for some lines of text which were before now taken at face value without any thought of a deeper meanings that may have been lost due to language translation and ignorance/a shallow knowledge of the Jewish customs, traditions and calendar system.
Though written chronologically in a first person narration as if Jesus himself was explaining the gospels about him by his disciples, I Am Yeshua is not an easy read and the information it contains even harder to digest. The writer of attempted to furnish those who do not have access to the original Bible text with facts against the backdrop of the Jewish cultural and language inflection as well interpret them. If all that were presented are sure facts, and the lines of the Bible riddled with deep hidden meanings that require interpretations, then this book is posed to shake the very foundations of the faith of a present day Christian because a great chunk of his beliefs may have been built on a gross misunderstanding of the scriptures.
The question that begs to be asked now is; how much of the book is fact and how much is a quest for new meanings for the scripture where there should be none?
