Uju Jupiter

Uju Jupiter is a piercing tale of trauma, hurt, alienation and triumph.

After losing her father, beautiful Obianuju is goaded into a teenage marriage with a former drug courier, Okenwa. Okenwa and his mother, Obidiya, are desperate for male heirs. Uju’s determination to pursue a university education incurs hostility. Seeking solace, Uju runs to church, but her troubles only escalate because Maya, a street girl, has put a leg in her marriage. Like her mother before her, Obianuju must fight the war that has come to her.

Jupiter paints a vivid picture of Nigerian city life, highlighting the harsh reality of female subjugation and how low expectations imposed on young girls hinder them. Tragically, ignorant victims often mature into enablers and enforcers. However, Uju Jupiter is also a story of resilience, hope and the indomitable female spirit.
