The Ghost of June 12

The annulment of the June 12 presidential election had stifled a people’s dream. It would be wrong, however, to view it from the moral standpoint of what the principal actors’ roles comprise with the aim of tagging them heroes or villains. To do so would be rather simplistic and could in a sense be a subversion of the true intent of a historical treatise which should proceed without a hint of presupposition… So, the conclusions drawn in Olusegun Adeniyi’s book will certainly generate disparate views. It is the beauty of democracy – the freedom to disagree. And that is the value all Nigerians should strive to imbibe, because democracy thrives better when the public space can accommodate different shades of opinion.
