Orisa: An African Ghost Story

When her marriage falls apart, Ndidi is trapped by the wealth and power of her estranged husband, whose controlling mother exerts a troubling influence over Ndidi’s daughter, Tola. Desperate to protect Tola from the family’s slavish devotion to a cult-like church and its charismatic leader, Pastor Mike, Ndidi plays the role of the dutiful wife and daughter-in-law.

When Tola vanishes, the brilliant Detective Wole is assigned to the case and, with Ndidi’s help, uncovers darker forces than the greed and megalomania of Pastor Mike’s church. What Wole doesn’t know is that the playground whispers that terrified Ndidi as a child – of juju, the Gbomogbomo child snatchers, and their Òrìṣàs – have returned to haunt her…

Ndidi is in a race against time to stop the ritual murder of her daughter. The child has been taken and will be buried alive by the worshippers of an Òrìṣà, a creature so powerful its desires cannot be denied. Yet somewhere in the Òrìṣà’s reasoning lies a glimmer of hope. It cannot speak, is too inhuman to communicate in any normal way, but it understands the language of barter. Ndidi has hours to find out why it first haunted her, and what it might be willing to trade for her daughter, because the Òrìṣà does nothing without cause.
