Jumai’s personal and business relationship with Lai is threatened not only by her teenage son and half-sister Empress but also by the new Audit investigator of the bank, Tolani, who is bent on reforming the bank as he uncovers a string of financial atrocities committed by Lai the MD of Oilmetrics.
Jumai’s shocking discovery of Lai’s health status prompts her to make moves to terminate their business plans and personal relationship, which she was once so determined to retain. Using Tolani who has feelings for her, she begins to put in place her plans to cover up her own fraudulent activities. Tolani is adamant in pursuing the recovery of the funds of the bank as Lai loses the bid for the purchase of the refinery after his political cronies abandon him.
Reacting to this loss Lai’s ultimate target of destruction is Jumai’s son. Jumai stubbornly refuses to accept the assistance of the Police and Tolani with whom she begins an affair. The police reveal her complicated background which sheds light on how she manipulated and betrayed her half-sister, Empress who was in a relationship with Lai before her. Making plans to abandon them all, her son is kidnapped from school. It’s only when the true parentage of her son is revealed before Jumai goes to the police and helps to bring Lai to book for his criminal activities.
In the end, despite losing her life, Empress is able to eventually get even with Jumai. Jumai ends her relationship with Tolani after he covers her atrocities. She begins her ambitious plans to ensure her son takes over Oilmetrics.

Without apologies, unequivocally, M. Aboyade – Cole is firmly in realm of modern writers of fiction, of paperback novels, that are universally readable. Oilmetrics is a sweet read.
Clearly written with insights into the roots and working of the tensions that drives players in the world of banking it speaks to the nuances that underlies the motivation behind the individual’s search for wealth, power, recognition and the road to the psychosis that results from the obsession to achieve status.
Yet, “Oilmetrics” retains that elegant quality of being “a good story” readable on many levels by a wide range of readers from the young to the savvy. That is the true beauty of this novel.
It can be read by an audience that is diverse in age and exposure with being able to relate at their level, with all finding it fascinating in the light of their level of comprehension and if I remember correctly, that’s the definition of a classic.
