ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Ladipo is a Professor of Public Administration and an Independent Scholar. He holds a BA (French, First Class Honours), University of Ibadan, June 1968; MPhil (Public Administration) University of Ife, June 1970; and DPhil (Politics) Oxford University, UK, September 1972. As one of the leading scholars on political and administrative management in Africa, he is the author or co-author of 36 books and monographs, and 111 journal articles and contributions to books on politics and public administration in Africa.

Between 2006 and 2015, he convened a Public Affairs Forum series in Iju (attended by academics, public servants and other professionals) – quarterly for the first four years and then, annually for five years – as a contribution to the promotion of knowledge. He was also engaged in consultancy assignments (within Nigeria and in several other African countries) focused on governance, public sector management, and development issues.

He was a part-time Professor of Management at the Federal University of Technology, Akure from 2005 to 2008. From January 1987 to July 2004, he worked at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining the World Bank, he taught at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) for about twenty years, the last ten as a Professor of Public Administration. He served there as Head, of the Department of Public Administration and Dean, of the Faculty of Administration. His other work experience includes a one-year stint as a Public Administration Officer at the United Nations, New York (1975-76). He has won many honours and distinctions at home and abroad over the years.

In December 2005, he was conferred with the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM) award, the “highest national prize for academic and intellectual attainment”. He was awarded DSc (Public Policy and Governance, honoris causa), Lead City University, Ibadan, 2016. His late wife Dr (Mrs) Olukemi Adamolekun, started Kaleyewa House, an NGO focused on the elderly in 2001. It is one of Ondo’s longest-running NGOs with impact. He has kept Kaleyewa House running since operations fully began in 2003 to mark one year of Olukemi’s untimely death.

He published his autobiography I Remember in 2016. He is based in his hometown, Iju, Akure North, Ondo State where he has a private Public Affairs Library.
