Beyond Expectations: A Memoir

This book, Beyond Expectations, is a riveting read. It is riveting in its breath and depth. It is riveting by the author’s command of language. It is riveting by what the author does not serve his readers. Luckily, for the author, it is those of us who know him intimately that will note that he has said less than what he knows about those who betrayed him as a major player in the media industry and in his foray into the uncharted and murky waters of our national politics.

The author’s choice of the title for his memoirs is spot on. His achievements are truly beyond the expectations of his early life, given the circumstances that bracketed his parents among those in the lower rungs of the societal ladder. They are beyond expectations because they are beyond his age. He reached the pinnacle of his chosen profession, journalism, when his mates were still struggling along the side walks of life

….life is not, as he remarks in the book, a walk through the park. But each time he found himself heading down the slopes into the valley, he miraculously found himself on the mountain top. He attributes these swings in his life to the unseen but active hands of Allah (SWT).
