About the Author

Dr Mumini Alao is a famous Nigerian sports journalist with a PhD in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos. His primary focus at the Atlanta ’96 Olympics Games was the Nigerian football team which gave him a vantage position to travel with them and chronicle their every step on their way to winning the historic Gold medal. His exhaustive reportage of the team for Complete Football International magazine which he edited at the time, Complete Sports daily newspaper and the BBC Africa Service ultimately won him two national media awards as Nigeria’s Sports Reporter of the Year, 1996. In recognition of his overall contributions to sports journalism in Nigeria, the Ballers’ Awards named him as the Industry Icon of the Year 2020.
