Philip Akoda is a Nigerian entrepreneur, lexicographer and multi-published author. He is the Founder & CEO of Nkanda (formerly The African Languages Project), an award-winning EdTech startup backed by Imminent and the Mastercard Foundation. Nkanda is at the forefront of preserving and digitising African languages and cultural heritage, and in recognition of this impact, the company received the Association of Language Companies in Africa (ALCA) Award for Outstanding Contribution to African Languages. Philip has authored several landmark works, including A 21st Century Efik Pocket Dictionary, the Learn Efik book series (Volumes 1 & 2), and Groundwork of Eniong Abatim History (1670–2020).
A prolific contributor to Wikipedia, he has also authored over 20 articles on African history and culture, amplifying underrepresented narratives in the global digital commons. A first-class Business Management graduate of the University of Derby, UK, Philip is also the
visionary behind a growing suite of multilingual mobile dictionary apps for African languages, including Africa’s most comprehensive bilingual Yoruba Dictionary app and the first-ever Efik Dictionary app. Through these tools, he continues to blend tradition with technology, empowering a new generation of African language learners around the world.
