About the Author
Ayo Deforge is a Nigerian writer based in the south of France. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, in 1982, she began writing poetry at the age of thirteen as a way to process personal grief. She studied French at Lagos State University and relocated to France in 2012. Her work has appeared in Litro Magazine, Brittle Paper, Kalahari Review, JAY Lit, Lucy Writers Platform, and other publications. In 2007, she deepened the development of her debut novel, TEARLESS, while attending Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s inaugural Creative Writing Workshop in Lagos. TEARLESS was published on December 1, 2023, and was shortlisted for both the Association of Nigerian Authors Prize for Fiction and the Chinua Achebe Prize for Fiction in 2024. Ayo writes both fiction and nonfiction, with a particular focus on the experience of grief—especially as it affects children.
